November 2018 Beauty

Let’s talk beauty! It’s the time of the year when you are working on your wish list, buying gifts and having people over.  I have been trying and loving some new and some favorites this month.  The Sephora VIB sale gave me the opportunity to try some stuff for 20% off!  I will follow-up with some gift idea lists soon.  Here is what I have got for you!

farmacygreen.jpgLa Mer The Lip BalmJMminicandlesetJMorangebittersUrbanDecayNakedCherry
Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm  : Long name-great balm! I have been looking for a make-up removing solution and decided to research and try some balms.  I am also always on the lookout for stuff that is good for the planet and my skin – especially on my sensitive face! This has a beautiful green hue with a neutral smell.  It comes with a little white spatula for scooping — which is essential to not “contaminate” the entire pot! The texture is smooth and was effective at taking ALL my makeup off! I would definitely recommend this!

La Mer The Lip Balm : I am ALWAYS on the lookout for a lip balm that doesn’t irritate my lips.  I have probably tried 10 new ones in the last 6 months! I saw this lippy on several bloggers’/YouTuber’s lists.  I will admit the price is just dumb, but I feel like I spend good $$ on my eyes and face so why not my lips as well.  I am glad to have the 20% discount! I will definitely buy it again during sale or bonus times.  It has a smooth texture and felt good on my lips.  Most importantly,  I didn’t have a reaction so I will continue with it.

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette : I have been loving rosey hues for eyeshadow… so this palette was right up my street! I  am loving it so far! The color payoff is great in the matte and shimmer… a step-up from the other Naked palettes (in my opinion).

Jo Malone London Orange Bitters Cologne: OMG I love this scent! Jo Malone does it yet again with this limited edition cologne.  I am so glad I got my hands on a bottle of this (and the Candle!) I don’t even know how to describe this scent… it is citrus and fall smells wrapped in one.

Hope this has been helpful. I will be back soon with a gift guide or two!

Vintage Logo Trend

Logos are everywhere! We all remember logos from our favorite sporty brands like Nike and Adidas. Both women and men participate in this style trend.  This phenomenon has expanded to the fashion and luxury brands.  From the popular luxe brands like Gucci and Dior, tees and accessories, logos are showing up as part of the style lexicon.  You see logos all over Instagram and in fashion magazines and on your favorite You Tubers.  Brands are bringing back their old logos and patterns which is exciting to those who follow fashion and trends.  I will put links to some examples below!

I have to admit, I do have some logo clothes and accessories in my closet.  I am not talking about having a logo from head to toe, but as an accent to your outfit. I love mixing logo t-shirts and accessories into my wardrobe for work, casual Fridays and weekends.  Tees and accessories with logos are easily found in-store and online or in vintage/second-hand shops.  The price difference between the luxe brands and other brands can be a cold splash of water, yet the trend lives on.

One brand that has been very good at this trend is Gucci.  The Gucci logo is everywhere! From belts to t-shirts to handbags, Gucci has reinvented itself in its own vintage image.  The last few seasons have been full of the use of their own logo and fun images or patterns that the trend and fashion world has embraced. They have released new handbags with their vintage canvas logos and in vintage styles.  You can also find vintage and pre-loved bags, clothes and accessories on resale sites like The Real Real and Fashionphile.

One popular example is the logo tee trend. Brands from contemporary designers like Marc Jacobs as well as luxury brands like Gucci, Burberry and Balmain have t-shirts with their logos on them.  People love these tees.  I too have logo t-shirts in my wardrobe.  I mix them in with my outfits when appropriate for me.  Imagine these shirts under a blazer with jeans and your favorite leather sneakers… that is my go-to casual-smart outfit!

Maybe you will jump into logo mania with the rest of the fashion world.  Perhaps not from head to toe, but with a few fun pieces.

Handbag Review- Céline Nano Luggage

I will admit it—I am late to the pre-loved luxe game.  I definitely had some trust issues. I am a researcher, so in reading blogs, watching YouTube videos and groups on Facebook…. I was one nervous handbag lover.  My normal process is to research, try-on in store if possible, to check my savings and to check in with my handbag loving friends to see what they think.  So relying on pictures and other people’s descriptions was difficult for me.  I knew I had to expand my research to experiences that others have had before buying pre-loved.

When I focused in on a Céline Nano Luggage back in July, I decided that I would go with Fashionphile  because the site had several choices of the bag. Let me tell you that I got extremely lucky and in a few days I found one in excellent (a Fashionphile description category) condition.  I will say, finding exactly what you want pre-loved can be hit or miss with availability but don’t give up.  I was a bit nervous because I need to inspect the bag before purchasing. This was another reason I picked Fashionphile… they have a return policy that allows you to return if the bag was not as expected. I got it for a great price, so pre-loved is a great option for those looking for a deal.

Now about the bag…. I picked the Céline Nano Luggage in black drummed calfskin.  I had seen this version in several videos & posts and loved the style and simplicity of the bag. I love that you can wear it on your arm and use the long strap for cross-body.  The black is classic, so goes with everything.  The shape is a bit slim and tall, so if you fill it up you may be stacking your items.  I have enjoyed carrying the it and love the size for my lifestyle. It fits my phone and essentials with no problem.  If someone were to ask me, I would definitely suggest this style.

There are stories/rumors out there that the new designer for the line with get rid of some styles including the Luggage.  This makes me sad because it is a great option.  If you are in the market for a new one, get it while you can.  If you want pre-loved, head to your favorite site and search away.  I will link to my specific bag and to Fashionfile’s Celine page below.

Online Shopping Services

I have been using these services for many years now.  The basic premise is that you go online, sign-up for the service and they send you stuff in the mail to try on.  You keep what you like and you send back what you don’t.  It is a win-win for busy people and for those who just don’t like shopping! There are many of these types of services out there.  Here are a few that I have tried and my experiences with them. I will include links so you can check them out for yourself.

Trunk Club

Trunk Club is a Nordstrom Company which is a bonus to the ease of this service because you can use your Nordstrom card and earn Notes.  They send you items (jewelry, clothing, accessories, shoes, etc) and you try them on at home. You keep what you want and send back what you don’t. The service is available for women and men.

So basically, to sign up for the service you fill out a profile about your style (I also linked my Pinterest so my stylist could see it) and schedule a trunk.  The stylist will chat with you through the website or app and ask you what type of items you need.  Most brands sold at Nordstrom are pretty much available.  I have even requested specific brands or items to be included in my trunk. You can even select a theme like wedding guest, workout/active wear or vacation items. They will send you an email with a preview of your trunk and you can say yes or no before the items are sent to you to and request other items they didn’t include.

This service has been the most successful for me.  I already loved shopping at Nordstrom and I now have a great Stylist (my 1st one & I didn’t click so I switched).  The fact that you see the items before they send them is great for me and I have felt like my requests and feedback on the items (you give feedback on what you like or don’t like) and that helps to build a rapport with the stylist. There is a limit on how long you can have the items at your house before you send back what you don’t want, so it is not like buying, thinking about it and returning it to the store–it’s a shorter timeline. I liked that you can either schedule a trunk whenever you want or if you are building a new wardrobe, you can have one sent on a reoccurring basis.

Stitch Fix

Stitch Fix was the first shopping services I every tried.  I read about it in the style section of the San Francisco Chronicle and knew I wanted to try it. This service has a simple formula: you sign up; fill out a profile; and schedule a “fix”.  They send you 5 items (clothes, shoes and accessories),  you keep what you like and send back what you don’t. There is a $20 styling fee when you scheduled, but that $20 is applied to any purchase you make.  This service is available to women, men and now kids.  They also have maternity for those who need it!

This service was good for a while for me.  I found that after a while I started to get the same items but in different colors/patterns.  I believe that now they have a larger variety of brands that they offer. You are not able to select specific items.  You can give “notes” to your stylist, but ultimately they pick what think you might like.  This was great for me when I moved from the classroom to administrator and I needed more work place style of clothes.  I was able to build a base work wardrobe.  I haven’t been back for a while, but is an easy service to use.
