The secret sauce of the 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is that it has items that can be used this summer, but also includes items for fall! The 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends August 5 when prices will go back up to regular price. I have to say that there is so much included, you can find looks for every occasion at Nordstrom, from weekend to wedding and night out to vacation.
Here is how my ordering drama resolved itself. So the 2 orders that I made that were cancelled within the system causing me to reorder were actually filled. So, I ended up getting all but one pair of jeans, but I got many duplicated items. Again props to SA Elizabeth @ Valley Fair for watching over my situation like a guardian angel. I have a thank you email set to go out to her (hello! I have manners).
So here is what I loved and if it worked for me or not:
I loved this dress in the pictures and in person. It would have been a great option for work or a party. Sadly, it didn’t fit me properly so I had to let it go.
I love the boho/peasant style of this! With booties or sandals in warm weather and with and cozy cardigan, tights and boots when it cools down. I ordered a size XL, but the sleeves were too long so I had to order a large. I’m hoping that will work.
For those who love AG Jeans… you must look at these. I am new to the AG program – I got my first ever pair in May from Trunk Club. I was excited to get my second pair to replace some older jeans that it was past time to sell/donate. OK they are a bit more than I would normally spend on denim, but my 1st pair really performed and you can save $76 before August 6.
These Halogen camis are so comfy with great lace detail and a bit of stretch. I have worn it under a cardigan and on it’s own when outside in the heat.
Another brand I am new to is Rails. This top is the perfect shape for me at work. The white with the fun black heart detail will work with my pencil skirts and trousers.
My other favorite from Rails is this cute tee. I am loving stars lately and this v-neck has a subtle pattern and a great fit.
This is one of the 1st items that I saw that I knew I wanted. I originally wanted it in black, but it was sold out and I was able to get a grey one. I am happy with this light-weight cardigan. It has a drawstring at the waist, so you don’t have that giant sweater look, but a slim silhouette.
So I knew I had to try this sweater out because 4 of my favorite bloggers (Lux Mommy, Chase Amie, Shea Whitney & Miss Louie) said I must. Boy were they right! This is the softest sweater in the history of sweaters! I am serious! I got the blue one in size medium and it is truly cozy.
So I never thought I would like an over-the-knee boot. My problem is my wide calf action (thanks a lot Zumba) which limits my selection significantly. These fit me perfectly and I saved $80! I can’t wait for the weather to cool down!
Tory Burch Flats. CLASSIC. Enough said.
Biker Chic. You might need these.
IT’S A SKORT! Navy with a hint of Lavender. I mean… it had me at skort.
I love me a good pencil skirt. Great for work and those who know me know that I will also wear with a tee and canvas sneakers. Classic fit.
Items that I got that maybe sold out, but I hope they will restock:
- Beauty Blender blend.cleanse.carry Set
- Thermal Henley Top by SOCIALITE Large
- Women’s Halogen Ribbon Stripe Slim Jeans, Size 33 Blue
- Treasure and Bond Sporty Stripe Sweater Large Grey
So many fun items with good prices this year. Remember,2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends August 5 so get moving. You can get FREE shipping or pick up in store.
Hope this was helpful!

So in my quest to use more natural/organic/green products in my life, I am on the hunt for natural deodorant. I have been looking for a product without Aluminum and Parabens. I struggle with the want of an antiperspirant and deodorant, but I know antiperspirant has the bad chemicals. I have not fully given up my antiperspirant for those days that it will be a million degrees or if I am wearing a delicate fabric that I do not want to sweat in. I also have sensitive skin when it comes to products with added scents, so I feel like I want to try ones that have natural scents added. I have tried a few and will link to them with their name and with a list at the bottom. I have tried some already and some are new. I am going to try the new ones out for a while and will post the results when my tests are done.
Here is what I tried:
I have tried a few scents and versions of the LAVANILA. They describe their ingredients as “pure, pretty and powerful.” Ingredients include vanilla oil, aloe, coconut oil, green tea and more know to be gentle to the skin. The Sport Luxe has a good scent but I don’t know if I felt like it would specifically help me not smell while working out better than the other scents. The Pure Vanilla scent was also good. But my favorite so far is the Vanilla Grapefruit. I love all things citrus, and so this one was my favorite. They all smell good and have not irritated my skin. It definitely keeps the bad smells away, although on extra long days I feel like I should re-apply just in case (I feel like this with all my natural deodorants) so I keep a travel-sized one in my desk at work. The travel-sized version feels a little more “solid” than the full-sized one, which glides on smoothly. I will definitely continue to use LAVANILA if I am not able to find a natural deodorant that I like better. It is a solid choice.
So I went onto the Native Deodorant website to see what it was all about. The product is made in the US and without aluminum and parabens. They have ingredients like shea butter, Jojoba oil and coconut oil, and other ingredients that are known to be good for skin. I clicked through the scents, which by the way sound delightful! I ended up getting a travel sized sample pack, so I could try out several of the scents without committing to a scent for a long time. This pack includes 5 travel size bars of: Native Coconut & Vanilla, Lavender & Rose, Cotton & Lily, Lime & Coconut, and Strawberry & Rhubarb. I will update once I use these for a while.

Shop brand-new arrivals at super-sale prices at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Topshop, Ted Baker London and more. Sale ends August 5. Prices go up August 6. Free shipping, pick up in store and more. Free shipping, pick up in store and more.
Here is the good, bad and ugly of this years event.
On a normal day I totally love Nordstrom. Good selection, variety of sizes and colors and good customer service— what is not to like. So this time of year when the Anniversary sale comes along I am excited. A pre-sale of fall items with a early access for card members–again, what’s not to like?
After scanning the catalog and marking items I wanted to see further, I logged on to make my Early Access Purchase. Let the problems begin. I can only put into words what happened in list form.
The list of things that went wrong:
- the website kept logging me out
- items that I wanted kept dropping out of my cart yet still showed as available
- I tried to access my Nordstrom Notes and the site would crash
- the app didn’t work either
- order placed with no confirmation email
- next day, order says cancelled, but no email notification from Nordstrom
- customer service- totally unreachable in all methods
- wait 30 minutes on hold to be told that my order was not cancelled
- email saying that my order was cancelled and I needed to reorder
- reorder with renewed access to my notes
- part of my order cancelled again, though the items still show they are available
- reorder items again
- Items begin shipping one at a time and a few items available for pickup
- person in-store says she will look into my issues and adjust my points
- Props to SA Elisabeth who had my back to get my items and points
So…. although I am dismayed about my experience and the uncertainty of whether I will actually receive all the items I purchased (most still say “preparing”), I still (heart) you Nordstrom even though I know you will never send me an apology or give me the points that I am owed. I hope that you can work out all the problems that thousands of us had, because clearly we like you– after all we do have your credit card and use your rewards program.
I know this seems like a rant, but it is just stating facts. I have worked retail and know the value of customer service, which is where I believe Nordstrom fell down here. Don’t get me wrong, I still want my stuff and will continue to shop at Nordstrom. I guess I was just surprised at how incredibly wrong this sale began for me. That being said, there are some awesome items, beauty and clothing that you should check out. The sale opens to the public on July 20. When/if I get my items, I will share a review of them.

Note: These are my experiences with the topic mentioned. Affiliate links are used when available.
I know, I know, but I’ve been VERY busy. I have been in grad school working on my doctorate, had some personal triumphs and tragedies over the last couple of years. But I will do better. I have been keeping stylish and eating good food through it all, but I vow to start sharing more…. soon.
So the dilemma of what to pack… I go through this EVERY time that I have a trip on the horizon. Whether it is a weekend away or a two week trip, it is something that most of us struggle with. So what to do? Well the basic tip is to pack neutrals with accessories that can add that pop of color or pattern. So I totally agree with that, but frankly I wear basics to the office everyday. I want to use my weekends and vacation time to wear my more creative and fun stuff. I am talking some of my favorite pieces. So here is my approach to this packing struggle every time my trip comes around….
- Check what the weather is like there— well duh, but I look at multiple sources– people have very different ideas of what the weather is like in a certain place
- Have a general idea of what you are going to do— duh again, but it will tell you a lot about what shoes and special items (like a bathing suit) you will pack
- Then pick the favorites that you really want to bring. Part of having fun on your trip is feeling great about how you look, so pack that cute dress- weather permitting
- I try to bring at least one dress— that way you can wear it as a dress and as a skirt (paring it with a cute tee or top). It also comes in handy if you choose to go to a “fancier” restaurant or event
- Then mix in some basics that you can pair with your favorites or something new that you may buy along the way
- Try and pick things that you can wear more than once—- think mix and match
So basically I take out all the pieces that I may want to bring and lay them out on my bed… then I force myself to edit. This is a must because I love for my souvenir from my trips to be a piece of clothing or accessory–and I don’t mean a t-shirt with the name of the city I was in! I love getting a great scarf, pair of earrings or top that reminds me of the places that I have been when I wear them. One example of this is a great pair of earrings that I bought at a glass blowing shop in Venice, Italy. Seven years later I still have them and they remind me of my trip to Italy every time I wear them. So that being said, make sure you edit enough to leave room for souvenirs! That is why the editing is so important, not to mention the space and weight restriction of airlines! It is always the hardest part for me. So as I pack for my trip next weekend, I will post some of my struggles and my process and how I will make my choices work.
Hope this rant is helpful for my fellow fashionistas who struggle with packing for that long awaited trip! Happy stylish traveling!
A great sweater post from one of my favorite fashion sites!
So here it is! I have wanted to start a blog for a while, so I am jumping in. I hope to spread my love of fashion, food, home and adventure to those who want to listen! More to come soon!
