What I Wore- December 2018

December 2018

Let’s talk about what I wore…. This outfit was for work on a cold day in the Bay Area. The Madewell Dress is one of my favorites with the tie at the neck & long sleeves and I am obsessed with stars lately. I wore my Tory Burch boots with my favorite Boot socks from Bombas. The sweater is a cozy chunky knit from Banana Republic which is great for my chilly office. To top it off— my Chanel eyeglass frames with a clip on for sunnies.

And then there is my lovely gray Diorama. I simply love this bag. It is perfect on shoulder and crossbody –which is important to me in most bags. The color is a great neutral that can be worn with anything. It just makes me smile.

Here are links to most of it if you are inspired:

Summer Favorites & Tips for an Enjoyable Vacation

I thought I might try my hand at a favorites list.¬† Since I had so much plan on my trip this summer, I thought I’d do a round-up of my favorites.¬† I admit it… I am a chronic planner/list maker when it comes to travel.¬† So I will also include some of the tricks and tips to make planning a bit easier.¬†¬†

Tip #1- go where the food is!

Basically, due to my husband and my love of food — we plan our trips around where we can get good food and drink.¬† Call me crazy, but a girl’s got to eat! I often rely on my friends & family for referrals and they rarely disappoint! So tip #1 ask your people for ideas.¬† I make a list on my phone (that I share with my travel companions) for easy access on the road.¬†¬†

Tip #2- Packing

So as a person who loves fashion, this one is hard for me.¬† I have already written a post on packing tips, so I won’t go into that kind of detail here.¬† I will just touch on some of the items that I loved using this summer during our Europe travels.¬†

  • Suitcase: A good suitcase is a must! With size and weight requirements and cobble streets, you MUST have a case you can rely on.¬† I know there is some debate between the soft & hard shell camps, but I have found the hard shell to be lighter when empty which means I can bring more stuff. We picked a large Away Suitcase for our 2.5 week trip (of course mine is pink!).¬†
  • Packing support: Flight 001 makes my favorite packing/travel stuff. They are investments, but I have had some key pieces for several years and the cost per use¬† make them worth the cost.¬† My key pieces from Flight 001 are packing cubes, Clear 1 Quart bag and Seatpak (a zip pouch that organizes my carry-on accessories. Links are below.¬†

Tip #3 – Necessary Travel Supports

  • Travel essentials: You will definitely need a plug adapter.¬† Most power cords for our essential electronics are Europe dual voltage (all my Apple stuff), so I just needed the various adapters.¬† The Flight 001 5-in-1 was super handy.¬†
  • Don’t forget your cords for your electronics! If needed, bring an adapter with a converter if your plugs are not the correct voltage.¬†
  • Also, I always take an eye mask for long flights and Flight 001 makes cute ones. Links are below.¬†

Tip #3 The Right Shoes

  • This one was tricky for me of course. I am a shoe lover, but I have plantar faciitis so I know that I have to pick the right shoes when on vacation.¬† One pair are sneakers suggested by Oprah because of their supportive insoles. I got the Splendid Syra Leather model in white.¬† Oprah was right! I also brought a pair of Nike Running shoes. I also brought a pair of Dansko Sandals in pewter and Tory Burch Minnie Travel Flats in black.¬† As a shoe girl, that is slim for me, but they covered all of our occasions and activities.¬†

Women’s Nike Air Presto Se Sneaker, Size 8 M – Grey
Women’s Tory Burch ‘Minnie’ Travel Ballet Flat, Size 8 M – Black
Women’s Dansko Vera Sandal – Metallic
Women’s Vionic Splendid Syra Sneaker- White

I will write about my travel wardrobe (including clothes, handbags and accessories) in a future post. Hope this was helpful!

What Worked & What Didn’t- 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The secret sauce of the 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is that it has items that can be used this summer, but also includes items for fall! The 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends August 5 when prices will go back up to regular price. I have to say that there is so much included, you can find looks for every occasion at Nordstrom, from weekend to wedding and night out to vacation.

Here is how my ordering drama resolved itself.  So the 2 orders that I made that were cancelled within the system causing me to reorder were actually filled.  So, I ended up getting all but one pair of jeans, but I got many duplicated items. Again props to SA Elizabeth @ Valley Fair for watching over my situation like a guardian angel.  I have a thank you email set to go out to her (hello! I have manners).

So here is what I loved and if it worked for me or not:

Women’s Maggy London Ruched Waist Midi Dress 12

I loved this dress in the pictures and in person. It would have been a great option for work or a party.¬† Sadly,¬†it didn’t fit me properly so I had to let it go.

Women’s Hinge Mix Print Peasant Dress, Large – Blue

I love the boho/peasant style of this! With booties or sandals in warm weather and with and cozy cardigan, tights and boots when it cools down. I ordered a size XL, but the sleeves were too long so I had to order a large. I’m hoping that will work.

Women’s Ag The Farrah Ankle Skinny Jeans 33R

For those who love AG Jeans… you must look at these.¬† I am new to the AG program¬†– I got my first ever pair in May from¬†Trunk Club. ¬†I was excited to get my second pair to replace some older jeans that it was past time to sell/donate. OK they are a bit more than I would normally spend on denim, but my 1st pair really performed and you can save $76 before August 6.

¬†Women’s Halogen Lace Detail Camisole-Blue or Black Floral Large

These Halogen camis are so comfy with great lace detail and a bit of stretch.¬† I have worn it under a cardigan and on it’s own when outside in the heat.

¬†Women’s Rails Bretton Heart Print Top, Size Large – White

Another brand I am new to is Rails.  This top is the perfect shape for me at work.  The white with the fun black heart detail will work with my pencil skirts and trousers.

Women’s Rails Cara Star V-Neck Tee, Size Large – White

My other favorite from Rails is this cute tee.  I am loving stars lately and this v-neck has a subtle pattern and a great fit.

Women’s Caslon Hooded Cardigan, Size Large – Grey

This is one of the 1st items that I saw that I knew I wanted.¬† I originally wanted it in black, but it was sold out and I was able to get a grey one.¬† I am happy with this light-weight cardigan.¬† It has a drawstring at the waist, so you don’t have that giant sweater look, but a slim silhouette.

Women’s Barefoot Dreams Cozychic Lite Circle Cardigan M¬†

So I knew I had to try this sweater out because 4 of my favorite bloggers (Lux Mommy, Chase Amie, Shea Whitney &  Miss Louie) said I must.  Boy were they right! This is the softest sweater in the history of sweaters! I am serious! I got the blue one in size medium and it is truly cozy.

Women’s Vince Camuto Kochelda Over The Knee Boot, 8.5 Wide Calf

So I never thought I would like an over-the-knee boot.¬† My problem is my wide calf action (thanks a lot Zumba) which limits my selection significantly.¬† These fit me perfectly and I saved $80!¬† I can’t wait for the weather to cool down!

¬†Women’s Tory Burch Benton Ballet Flat, Size 8 M – Black

Tory Burch Flats. CLASSIC. Enough said.

Women’s Halogen Hailey Bootie 8.5 M¬†

Biker Chic. You might need these.

Women’s Leith Tie Front Skort

IT’S A SKORT! Navy with a hint of Lavender. I mean… it had me at skort.

¬†¬†Women’s Halogen Plaid Stripe Pencil Skirt,¬† 14- Black

I love me a good pencil skirt.  Great for work and those who know me know that I will also wear with a tee and canvas sneakers. Classic fit.

Items that I got that maybe sold out, but I hope they will restock:

  1. Beauty Blender blend.cleanse.carry Set
  2. Thermal Henley Top by SOCIALITE Large
  3. Women’s Halogen Ribbon Stripe Slim Jeans, Size 33 Blue
  4. Treasure and Bond Sporty Stripe Sweater Large Grey

So many fun items with good prices this year.  Remember,2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends August 5 so get moving.  You can get FREE shipping or pick up in store.

Hope this was helpful!
